Grasslands can be very important for wildlife, providing a haven for a wide range of wildflowers, birds, animals and invertebrates. With sensitive management this wildlife can be encouraged and conserved. Without management, grasslands become invaded by vigorous ‘weeds’ and scrub that out compete wildflowers. Eventually scrub may completely take over, resulting in the loss of a valuable refuge for wildflowers and the wildlife they support.
