Solar Panel Cleaning
Over the last 10 years LEMP Services LTD have offered our clients a panel cleaning service. This service included a full clean of all panels using our tractors with a SunBrush cleaning attachment.
Whilst this type of cleaning is acceptable, we found that many panels were not cleaned correctly and needed to be manually cleaned.
We also came to understand that our Carbon Footprint was becoming heavily impacted due to the fact that for full site panel cleaning the amount of water and machinery that is required to be transported to site was incredibly high.
As a result of this we have spent 3 years working closely with some of our clients and we have discovered that it is not necessary here in the UK for a full site panel clean. This is mainly due to the high volume of rainfall the UK is subject to and we are able to offer a service that is a “Spot Clean” , whereby we travel up and down each row of panels and only clean soiled ones or ones that have lichens etc on them. There is no greater loss of production and no difference between a full clean and a spot clean.
The other observation that was made highlighted the issue with a full panel clean and the proximity to other farm activities such as crop harvesting which can result in dust been carried long distances and covering the solar panels until such time as it next rains. This has been seen on many sites after a full panel clean and proves that it is not necessary for this cleaning method.
In taking this new approach, we can not only dramatically reduce our Carbon Footprint but we can offer a huge cost saving for our clients. We often carry out this spot cleaning service twice per year which is still more cost effective than one full panel clean.
